COURSE INFORMATION

TEACHER TRAINING 

LEVEL 4 EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training aims to develop practical teaching skills and, through the units offered, prepares teachers to work in a wide range of contexts. It requires observation and assessment of practice. This highly regarded professional course offers learners the opportunity to gain qualifications in the education, training and enterprise sectors. Learners are required to be delivering or facilitating in their specialist area and 30 hours minimum delivery must be logged. It also provides a great network of peers that can continue to provide advice and support.

The following subjects will be covered in the Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training: 

  • Knowledge of the role & responsibility of a teacher 

  • How to plan & deliver lessons, and assess a student 

  • How to make your teaching inclusive 

The qualification can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including : 

 

- Individuals who are not currently teaching but can meet the practice requirements, including the observation and assessment requirements. 

 

- Individuals who are currently teaching and training and can meet the practice requirements including the observation and assessment requirements. - Individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a teaching qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants need to be qualified, proficient or experienced in the subject which they intend to teach. It would be expected that applicants have sufficient personal skills to complete the academic and other requirements of the programme. They will also need to be able to support their learners at the appropriate level whilst delivering their subject specialist applicants need to demonstrate the potential to study at a minimum academic level 4 – the same level of study as the first year of a degree course. Learners are required to be delivering or facilitating in their specialist area and 30 hours minimum delivery must be logged. 

 

Applicants will be required to take an initial assessment of their maths, English and ICT skills. The teaching programme will support further development of these skills, recorded in a personal development log. It is recommended that trainee teachers will have been assessed as competent at level 2 in English and maths prior to the completion of their certificate.

ASSESSMENT 

A portfolio of evidence including a range of written assignments based around your teaching practice & subject knowledge, 3 lesson observations of your teaching practice, a reflective diary and evidence of professional development.

WHERE COULD THIS COURSE TAKE YOU?

The requirement for teachers in publicly funded post 16 education and training to have prescribed teaching qualifications were revoked from September 1st 2013. Employers now have the discretion to appoint to posts those that they feel are best suited in terms of qualifications, experience and attributes for the roles they wish to fill. Many employers retain a preference for those who have, or who are willing to gain, a teaching qualification. This qualification may enhance employment opportunities and provide a basis for progression with the possibility of carrying forward the Level 4 to the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. Tutor working in FE College or similar would expect a salary beginning from £22,000

LEVEL 3 ASSESSING VOCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a vocational assessor. This qualification is designed for learners aged 19 years or older and will support you to gain employment as a vocational assessor, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. This is a practical-based qualification intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment, and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (i.e. workshop, classroom or other training environments). Entry onto this qualification will require you to have full competence in the vocational subject area that you will be assessing and you will need access to a cohort of learners, so that you can gather evidence of real assessments. 

 

This qualification includes units covering the principles and practices of assessment, assessing learners' occupational competence in the work place and assessing vocational skills, and knowledge and understanding of education and training.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • You will need to be 19+, have a Level 2 in Math’s and English or be working towards them.

  • Acceptance onto this course is subject to successful guidance interview & assessment test

LEVEL 3 EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Formerly known as PTLLS, the Award in Education and Training is a short course designed to enable a wide range of students to undertake teaching, training or learning tasks relevant to their own training or teaching situation. It is recommended for all teachers new to the sector whether in further education, adult and community learning, work-based learning or other parts of the learning and skills sector. 

 

You will study a range of units covering aspects of Teaching including: 

 

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities & relationships in education and training.   

  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training  

  • Assessment methods 

 

All classes are taught remotely via Zoom and include a range of teaching and learning activities.  

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • You will need to be 19+

  • Have a Level 2 in Math’s and English or be working towards them. 

  • Acceptance onto this course is subject to a successful guidance interview.

  • 8 weeks

There will be 3 written assignments and a micro-teach  to complete.
