NURSERY AT BLACKBURNE HOUSE

We’re very lucky at Blackburne House to have a nursery on-site. The public nursery operates as an independent social enterprise, catering for all children from 0 to 5 years. Having this facility on-site also means that we can offer flexible and affordable childcare for our staff, students and visitors. We provide the highest level of care and attention to the children in our supervision, helping them to develop socially and emotionally, whilst catering to their individual needs. We also support children with special needs, which included speech and language therapy, behaviour and sensory support.

OUR NURSERY IS DIVIDED INTO 4 ROOMS:

THE LADYBIRD

ROOM

THE GRASSHOPPER ROOM

Caters for small babies from 0 to 2 years, accommodating up to 9 infants.

We carefully control staff ratios, ensuring that no member of staff is in care of more than 3 children at any given time – and we often have the additional support of childcare students in every room.

The environment in The Ladybird Room is stimulating, with staff encouraging babies to develop at their own pace whilst ensuring their individual needs are met with careful planning and observation.

The Grasshopper Room can accommodate up to 14 children from the ages of 2 to 4 years.

We always have a minimum of 6 staff, supported by volunteers or childcare students – all of whom are all fully CRB checked.

Children participate in play opportunities and activities initiated by their peers in order to enhance and encourage their personal, social and emotional development. We believe that this is the best way for children to learn how to develop relationships socially interact with other children.

THE BUMBLEBEE

ROOM

The Bumblebee Room can accommodate up to 8 children from the ages of 2 to 4 years.

We always have a minimum of 6 staff, supported by volunteers or childcare students – all of whom are all fully CRB checked.

Similarly to The Grasshopper Room, children are encouraged to participate in play opportunities and activities initiated by their peers in order to enhance their personal, social and emotional development. We believe that this is the best way for children to learn how to develop relationships socially interact with other children.

THE BUTTERFLY

ROOM

Caters for children of pre-school age with a current intake of 8 children.

Children in the Butterfly Room are encouraged to participate in activities that promote independent learning and we try to instil a sense of routine to prepare them for the start of primary school.

Currently, the children are working around topic and story-based activities with an emphasis on developing their skills in writing, phonics and numbers, which will be further developed when they progress to Reception class.
