How To Plan the Perfect Wedding at Blackburne House

The wedding season is upon us, and here at Blackburne House we’re excited to celebrate with couples tying the knot in 2024. Here are our top 10 tips for making the most of your big day...

Set your budget

One of the first things to think about when planning your wedding is your budget. There are plenty of ways in which you make your budget work for you, including knowing (and sticking to!) your priorities. If you're looking for some areas where you can save money, look into making your own centre pieces, go digital with your wedding invitations and opt for one venue for both your ceremony and reception. At Blackburne House, you can get married and have your reception all in one beautiful setting. We have wedding options available to suit all budgets, so you can book with confidence!

Start with a viewing

When searching for your dream venue, it’s important to schedule a visit so you can see how your vision will come to life. Think about what you want from your venue, what are your non-negotiable wants and what are the 'nice to have' factors. Planning a wedding can be stressful, so staying organised is key! When you book your viewing at Blackburne House, a member of our dedicated events team will show you around our range of rooms and discuss your options with you.

Set a Date

Now things are getting serious – it’s time to set a date! At Blackburne House, you can have a beautiful wedding at any time of year. For a summer celebration, think ceremonies with natural light pouring through our vaulted glass ceilings and drinks on the terrace. If you’d prefer a winter wonderland, imagine the grand staircase at Blackburne House decorated with candles and an elegant winter feast cooked with seasonal ingredients. We have availability throughout the year and you can discuss your date with a member of our events team.

Choose a theme

Now you have visited your venue and set your date, you can brainstorm and choose your theme. At Blackburne House, our spaces are versatile, and you can dress them in a way to suit you, whether that’s with a colour scheme or a theme such as bohemian or vintage. Decide upon your dishes

When thinking about your menu, it can be helpful to tot up the number of guests you are expecting. This will help the caterers to advise you on what kind of meal will work best for your special day. Your first meal as a married couple will be an exquisite one at Blackburne House. The chefs in our Bistro will work with you to personalise your menu to fit your needs. From a 3 course meal to a laid back buffet, your guests will remember the food at your wedding for years to come. There are also options for delicious canapés and evening food so none of your guests will go hungry. Blackburne House caters for all dietary requirements so your day can run smoothly.

Book your registrar

The most important part of your day, the ceremony! When thinking about your ceremony, don't forget to check that your venue is registered and approved for weddings. You'll need to give notice at your local register office as part of your planning process. Booking is a breeze with Blackburne House, as our rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies so you can get married and have your wedding party all in one beautiful location.

Invite your guests

Writing your wedding guest list can be a tough job - don't rush the process and work with your partner to ensure that all of your closest loved ones make the cut. Your wedding is your special day, and you can choose who to spend it with! Your guests will have an amazing day celebrating with you at Blackburne House. There are rooms available for parties of all sizes, from a smaller intimate setting up to 120 people in the Eleanor Rathbone Hall. If you have guests travelling to celebrate with you, why not recommend them one of the hotels conveniently situated along Hope Street? For guests who live locally, our City Centre location will make travelling to your wedding a breeze.

Choose your music

You will always remember the song you walk down the aisle to, so choose a song you love. You can personalise the song to you and your partner or look for inspiration online. If you want to dance the night away at your wedding, look into booking a band or DJ to play all of your favourite tunes. At Blackburne House, you can move your party down to our fabulous Bistro where you can boogie until 2am.

Book a photographer

Choose a photographer you are comfortable with and who can capture your memories on your big day. Many photographers have websites where you can see other weddings they have photographed to ensure their style is right for you. Set in a beautiful Grade II listed building, Blackburne House provides the perfect backdrop to your photos, so you can look back on your happy memories for years to come.

Say 'I do'!

After all of your planning and preparation, don't forget to enjoy every moment of your special day, and remember the most important tip - saying 'I do' to your new spouse!
