This morning, Claire Dove OBE, announced to colleagues that she will be retiring as Chief Executive of Blackburne House at the end of the academic year. Plans to appoint a successor are underway with the role to be formally advertised next month.
Claire, a leading voice in the social enterprise movement, has led the organisation for over 35 years. This Liverpool based award-winning social enterprise, charity and outstanding Further Education and training college supports the development of local, and often vulnerable, women. Their core focus is on education, offering a wide range of nationally recognised courses and qualifications to all woman - particularly in sectors in which women are still under-represented.
In her message to colleagues, Claire said:
“It has been a privilege to lead this organisation for over 35 years, so much has changed. I am so proud that women's empowerment, and challenging discrimination in all its forms, is still at the heart of all that we do. Many thousands are living into their potential as a result of our work, and their time, here at Blackburne House and yet I see, there is still so much to do. It has been a hard decision to make, but I’m confident we will find the right successor to build on the positive legacy we have built; and although I will be retiring, I will continue to support and champion Blackburne House.”
In addition to her current position, Claire is also the Crown Representative - Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE), a Non-Executive Director of the Alder Hey Hospital Trust and Chair of St George’s Hall Charitable Trust. She has also previously chaired the Liverpool Fairness Commission of Liverpool City Council, served on the Liverpool Mayoral Development Board and was Chair of the Society Advisory Board for the British Council. Claire was also Chair of Social Enterprise UK and Board member for the Charity Commission.
