As a single mum, I thought University was an impossible dream

We caught up with Jess, one of our learners who is completing an Access to Healthcare Professions with us at Blackburne House. She has transformed her life with a lot of hard work, passion, and strength, and is proving to herself, that sometimes dreams do come true.

Jess' story

"I was a single mum with a newborn and a young child and felt my life was going nowhere. Tired of the same routine I fell upon a leaflet in the local sure start, and Blackburne House immediately caught my eye. I'd always wanted to pursue a career in Nursing but wasn't too sure how to go about it. So I was naturally thrilled to find out they advertise Access to Higher Education courses in Health Professions. I'd previously heard about the excellent reputation of Blackburne House, so this swayed me even more.

I've now almost finished my course and earned a place with Liverpool John Moores University to study Nursing. I am overwhelmed with the help and support I have received from Blackburne House College tutors, and the Nursery, who provided me with good reliable childcare throughout my course. Thank you, Blackburne House."
