Discovering yoga gave me insight into living a healthier and happier life

At The Health Place, Blackburne House, Megan is our fantastic Yoga instructor. We caught up with her to find out what makes yoga so unique.

"We live in a very fast-paced society where stress is common, and we often feel guilty taking time out for ourselves. I aim to create a safe, relaxing space where anyone can come no matter body shape, size or yoga experience and spend time on themselves guilt-free."

Megan graduated from Edinburgh University in 2012 with a degree in Psychology, followed by two years living abroad, teaching English in Vietnam and travelling across South Asia and Australia.

In 2015 Megan returned to the UK and completed her 200-hour Seasonal Yoga Adult Yoga Teacher training, followed by her Children’s Yoga Training. She developed a strong mindfulness and meditation practice over the past six years and recently set up an online Mindfulness company, offering training for professionals in all industries, which she co-hosts with Dr Mike Scanlan.

Megan said:

"Since a young, I have been passionate about living a healthy balanced lifestyle, running, dancing, swimming and eating well. However, discovering yoga in Vietnam 2013 gave me insight into how we can live a healthier, happier mental lifestyle.

I was 22 and had recently moved to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to teach English, unaware of the mental benefits yoga provides it came as a shock when I floated out of my first yoga class feeling an overwhelming sense of calm and inner confidence!

After my first class in Vietnam, I knew yoga would become part of my life, and wanted to share it with other people through teaching. I spent the next two years living and travelling around Asia and Australia, deepening my yoga practice and discovering different teaching methods before arriving back to Liverpool, my home, and completing my Seasonal Yoga 200 hour Teacher Training.

I am now aware that there is a lot more to yoga than the physical practice, meditation and the breath both play an essential role in my classes, and I hope to provide my students with useful tools to take off the mat and into their everyday lives to help manage stress and promote relaxation.
