Blackburne House Students launch poetry & photography collection
Students from Blackburne House’s Creative Writing & Photography courses have worked together to create a beautiful collection of poetry & images which will be published this year to celebrate International Women’s Day & Blackburne House’s 30 years transforming women’s lives. The launch will take place on 8th March at 2pm at Blackburne House.
Deborah Morgan, Creative Writing Tutor- Blackburne House, Author, Disappearing Home, says:
A Snapshot of Voices, is a book of poetry and photography that gives voice to our artists of the future. It is a book about love, relationships; things that make us laugh, above all, a book about people. We hope this book of wonderful writing helps you fall in love with poetry. It was a joy for the writing class, who collaborated, and chose, the fantastic photographs that are included in this book.
A Snapshot of Voices, challenges the idea that poetry is hard to understand, because the poets have written about ordinary events that many of us encounter in our lives, and made them extraordinary. Whether it’s unruly neighbours, a school day you dreaded as a child, jealousy, disability, or friendship, you’ll even find Delia at a disadvantage in a cafe, between these pages you will encounter a snapshot of experiences you can relate to.
Some poets have written about women who changed the face of history through courage, like Rosa Parks. As I read this book, one idea came through time and time again; people are the one thing in life that will always matter, and if they have courage and use it wisely, great changes occur.
All welcome to attend the launch.
