| Access to HE Diploma: IT & Business |
Week commencing 20th September 2010 |
This course prepares women 19 and over for study at University. It is designed for people who would like to study in Higher Education but left school without the usual qualifications such as A levels. Many Access students go on to succeed at University and beyond, with a large number pursuing new careers and seeing changes in their lives they never thought possible.
This course is also a recognised Full Level 3 Qualification and will enhance job prospects in the field of IT.
Entry Requirements:
You must be 19 or over with a reasonable level of literacy or numeracy at the start of the course. All students will be asked to sit a college assessment and have English and Maths at Level 2. We can arrange basic English and Maths training before the course if required.
Future Opportunities
Progression on to Degree Programmes in areas such as; Software Engineering, Systems Analysis, Programming and Graphic Design. This course would also prepare you for employment in administration, Secretarial work and Customer Service/ Telesales.
Course Times & Duration
This course runs for the full academic year from September 2010 to June 2011.
Wednesday and Thursday 09.30 to 16.30 and Friday 09.30 to 12.30.

This course provides an excellent insight into the uses and application of a range of IT user skills and knowledge in the workplace.
The course covers: Using the Internet, using email, Security for users, IT Fundamentals, Improving productivity with IT, Presentation Software, Spreadsheet Software and Word Processing Software.
This course is suitable for women with no qualifications but who have some knowledge of computers. Upon completion of the course you will be awarded a British Computer Society ECDL (European Computer Driving License) Essentials and ECDL Extra.
This course runs from September 2010 to July 2011 with sessions on one day per week. |
| Foundation Business & IT |
Week commencing 20th September 2010 |
This course aims to develop your skills from a basic level in both Business and IT to make you more employable. You will also study units in IT hardware and software. You will gain confidence and create a personal development plan. The course is fun and practical and will involve visits, work experience and you will benefit from a range of guest speakers who will share experiences from the real world. You will improve your knowledge and develop entrepreneurial skills. In addition you will improve your basic skills in literacy and
numeracy.
Qualification -
NOCN level 1 qualifications in business and IT, OCR adult literacy and numeracy, and
personal development in financial awareness, self employment, and enterprise skills.
Entry Requirements -
No formal entry requirements just enthusiasm and a willingness to work and learn.
Future Opportunities -
You can progress to careers in administration, PC operation, business etc. You may also progress to a range of L2 qualifications including Business, IT user or IT Practitioner. You may also wish to progress to an apprenticeship or self employment.

| IT for Practitioners |

This course equips you with the skills you will need to maintain and repair PC Computers as well as completing installations. The course aims to give you skills for entry level jobs in ICT Systems Support and enable you to maintain a home PC. IT Support Technicians, sometimes known as IS Support Staff, help to find and correct software and hardware problems for IT users. They may work as part of a team within an organisation or work for an outside commercial client. During the course you will be provided with work experience opportunities, enabling you to use your skills in a real working environment. This course is suitable for all women, no qualifications needed, some knowledge of PC Maintenance preferred. Upon completion of the course you will recieve a City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma for IT Practitioners. |
| Level 2 Diploma in ICT |

This course provides an excellent insight into the uses and application of IT. You will be provided with work experience enabling you to use your skills in a real working environment. This nationally recognised Level 2 course leads to a certificate which is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades A to C. This course is suitable for all women, no qualifications needed, some knowledge of computers is preferred. This course rund from September 2010 to July 2011 with sessions running 2 and a half days per week. |

The Course includes visits to several housing projects, a job application
workshop session, a work placement and production of a Personal Development Plan.
This course will lead to The CIH (Chartered Institute of Housing) Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice.
You do not need any qualifications or experience for this course, just an
interest in the subject. All students will undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy needs which will form the basis of a process for identifying their professional development needs and an individual learning plan.
This course runs for 15 weeks, 6 hours per week. Tuesdays 10.00 to 16.00.
In addition you will need to spend approximately 3 hours per week on Directed Study Tasks.
This course will prepare you for front line jobs in the Housing Sector and to progress on to the CIH Level 3 certificate.

This course will lead to Chartered Institute of Housing Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice.
Entry requirements: CIH Level 2 is preferred. To enrol at Level 3 without a previous Level 2 you will need to demonstrate effective study skills and that you have knowledge and experience of activity in Housing.
This course runs for 33 weeks, 6 hours per week. Monday 13.30 to 20.30.
In addition you will also be required to spend approximately 3 hours per week on directed study tasks.
This course will prepare you for Housing Officer Roles, Management Positions, progression on to CIH Level 4 or a Foundation Degree.

| C&G 7303 Preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector |

This purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to teaching and delivering training as well as equipping participants with the necessary skills to support learners. During the course you will:
Identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation,
Adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching,
Develop communication and interpersonal skills,
Develop an awareness of professional roles and responsibilities,
Reflect on personal levels of experience, skills and areas of development.
This is an introduction qualification that all new teachers in the learning and skills sector must complete.
All students will undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy needs which will form the basis of a process for identifying their professional development needs and an

This course will lead to City & Guilds 7303 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Our Teacher Education courses are open to both men and women and entry is via an interview and application form. You need to be qualified in or have relevant experience in the subject area you want to teach and must be working or want to work as one of the following:
Teachers, Trainers and Tutors in the Lifelong Learning Sector and Adult and Community Education
Personnel Trainers in Commerce, Industry and the Third Sector
Technicians and Support Staff in further and adult education.
You do not need any previous teaching experience although this would be beneficial and assist you in your studies. You must be competent with English and be confident to stand in front of a class.
Duration
This 12 week course is available during the day or evening.
Future opportunities include: Tutors will be on hand to advise you of the progression routes. You will also be able to
operate as a Trainer in any capacity that your clients request, however you will need to be approved by an Awarding Body should you wish to deliver officially recognised
qualifications.

| C&G 7304 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector |

This is the next step from the C&G 7303 Award and is the required qualification for people wishing to teach on public funded courses and / or funded courses within an Associate Teacher role. It is an excellent course that covers a variety of topics including:
Planning and Enabling Learning,
The principles and practice of assessment.
Students will be required to have access to and undertake 30 hours of teaching practice. This course is assessed by externally set assignments, a portfolio of work and teaching and learning observations.
This course will lead to City & Guilds 7304 Certificate to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
This course is suitable for those who have completed the C & G 7303 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Our Teacher Education courses are open to both men and women and entry is via an interview and application form.
You must be qualified in the subject area you want to teach and must be working or want to work as one of the following:

This course is for women who have a solid level of English, and who have either already passed an ESOL Level 1 qualification and/ or can clearly show in their initial assessment that they are at the correct level.
This course runs for 17 weeks, 9 hours per week. Tuesday 09.30 to 12.30 and Thursday 09.30 to 16.30.

This course prepares women for jobs in the housing or building maintenance sector.
Students will gain a wide range of skills which may include plastering, basic plumbing,
joinery, tiling, interior design, use of power tools, environmental skills, painting and
decorating and bathroom fitting. This is a practical course and will involve external visits and visiting speakers from the industry who will share their knowledge and experience with you.
For each unit of study that is completed you will earn credits that will gradually build
towards an award or certificate in progression.
You will also study literacy, numeracy and IT to improve your basic skills and enhance your employment prospects. You will have the opportunity to take part in work experience.
The course will also include elements of personal development and skills for self
employment as well as improving self confidence and creating a personal development plan.
This course will lead to NOCN qualifications at Level 1 and 2 in construction trades and literacy, numeracy and IT OCR qualifications and a CSCS card.
No academic qualifications required, however this course, as you might expect, can be physically challenging, dusty and mucky at times. It will all be worth it, if you arrive with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn you will be rewarded with an invaluable set of new skills.
This course runs for 34 weeks, 15 hours per week. Monday and Tuesday 09.30 to 16.30 and Wednesday 09.30 to 12.30.
Future Opportunities include careers in a range of occupations in housing or building maintenance (e.g. Building technician, Joiner, Construction Operative, Kitchen Fitter etc). You could progress to study at level 3. You may also progress to self employment within the industry or to an apprenticeship.
