There is increasing evidence that engaging in creative and meaningful occupation can impact positively on health and wellbeing.

The main reasons for knitting commonly relate to its rhythmic, repetitive nature and its ability to relieve stress, induce relaxation and manage emotions, particularly for unwinding after work. It also helps people who suffer from anxiety disorders.

It is felt that knitting has meditative and ‘zen-like’ qualities – it is described as ‘soothing’ ‘restful’ and ‘spiritual’.
