Blackburne House’s newest Social Enterprise is now an award winner!

The Construction Training Academy was recognised at the 2012 Women in Construction Awards as ‘Best Training Scheme’ on Wednesday 14th March. The award, which is sponsored by Bromak Training Ltd, recognises the contribution Blackburne House has made to providing valuable and high quality training to female tradeswomen

The Women in Construction Awards, now in its sixth year, provides a showcase for the brightest and the best female achievers in the housebuilding and wider construction industries.

This is fantastic recognition of the work Blackburne House is doing with the Construction Training Academy, and with the newly launched BH Maintenance Ltd – a construction and maintenance company run by women for women, offering significant and increasing employment opportunities for women from disadvantaged communities in a non-traditional area.

BH Maintenance Ltd is the newest social enterprise within the Blackburne House Group which aims to empower women to enter the underrepresented sector of construction, maintenance and repair.

Andrea Rushton, Head of BH Maintenance Ltd and Construction at Blackburne House said: ‘”This is a fantastic award for the Construction Training Academy, and the Women In Construction Awards raise a massive amount of awareness for Women working in the industry. In the UK construction industry today, women represent 10% of the total workforce, of that 10% only 1% are out on site on the tools. BH Maintenance has recruited trades-women to train, mentor and inspire the students of the Construction Training Academy, providing valuable work based learning and peer to peer
support. “

Claire Dove CEO of Blackburne House said; “BH Maintenance is the realisation of a long held ambition for Blackburne House, I am proud of the achievements of the women who have made this happen.”
